Das Metapopulationskonzept in Okologie und Naturschutz

eine kritische Bestandsaufnahme

Abstract

Today, the metapopulation concept is very popular in ecology and conservation biology. A review of more than 170 scientific papers from the last 25 years shows that the empirical basis for many models and theoretical papers is rather weak. More than half of the field studies dealing with metapopulations did not meet the criteria for a real metapopulation. The evidence of the metapopulation concept for conservation biology is often pointed out theoretically, but there is a lack of applied studies showing its applicability to real world situations. Therefore, the benefit of the metapopulation concept for nature conservation has to be analysed carefully.
