Urban and regional development in Thessaloniki (Greece) and the future of the (inner) city centre of Thessaloniki


In October 2023, 19 students took part in the week-long excursion ‘Urban and regional development in Thessaloniki (Greece)’ organised by the Institute of Environmental Planning's Spatial Planning and Regional Development work group under the direction of Prof. Dr Rainer Danielzyk and Dr Nora Mehnen. The six-day field trip focussed on urban and regional development in Greece's second largest city, which was made tangible and tangible in discussions with selected local stakeholders. Representatives from the city administration, civil society and academia were met and social, planning and political structures in the city and region were discussed.

The field trip was funded by the DAAD university partnership ‘Centres of the Future’ (https://future-centres.eu/).
